Vultures Remuzat
REMUZAT, about an hour drive from the campsite, is one of the few places in France where you can observe 4 different species of vultures : griffon vulture (The most common), vulture, the bearded vulture and the Egyptian vulture.
The observation can be done from the village of Remuzat (do not forget to visit the House of Vultures, which is in fact the local tourist office, and watch free movie), or from the top of the cliff, which can be reached by road behind Saint May. Parking few km after Saint May, one reaches the summit 15 min walk, on a safe path, surrounded by fields of lavender.
It is also possible to climb to the plateau on foot via a steep path and to avoid if you suffer from vertigo. The advantage is that you are at the same height as the vultures during the ascent. And the rise is very nice. It is not possible to descend by the same path and therefore you must turn the whole cliff to reach Remuzat. (about 4 hours hiking in total). The guidebook is available here.
